Mama Locket hits personal best at Global Energy Race 5k 2018

Last Sunday on 23rd September, the Global Energy 2018 took place. It took place 35 cities across 23 countries. The UK home of the race this year was - the very pretty - Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield.

Runners got to choose whether they wanted to tackle 3k, 5k or 10k. Papa Locket picked 10k, Mama Locket picked 5k and Lucy Locket stayed at home with a chest infection.

It was a brilliant day out, and only a few miles away from one of New York Bakery Company’s factory locations: New York Bakery Company were the hosts of the event and also - believe it or not - the biggest bagel bakery in the world!

Mama Locket

This was Mama Locket's first race and we're proud to say she did brilliantly, hitting her personal best in 37 minutes and 36 seconds. Sporting her newest pair of Locket Loves leggings. She would have done it even faster if she hadn't stopped to help a lady across the line who was feeling unwell.

Papa Locket

He really wanted to finish in less than one hour, and we can report that he did it in... one hours and 15 seconds! Ha. Apparently, if he hadn't taken so long tieing his shoes he would have done it in under 60 minutes. There's always next time I guess. Maybe he could get Mama Locket to tie them for him

Papa Locket managed to take a video of Mama Locket crossing the finishing line Have a look at where she's keeping her tissue! You won't believe it.

Although the race was good fun the day also had a serious point as well. It was to raise awareness and money for the UK Foodbank Network who give emergency food and support for people in crisis in the UK.

The New York Bakery Company pledged a bagel to be donated to a local food bank for every single kilometre run. A whopping 7,500 bagels in total! If you would like to learn more about the work of the UK Foodbank Network (Part of The Trussel Group), you can check out their website here.
